Each has been polished on one end to reveal the interior's purple color and a subtly developed six-ray star. These genuine star sapphire crystals are unheated and untreated. Each specimen is 80 carats / 16 g, for a total weight of 160 carats / 32 grams.Purple sapphire is the least well known in the sapphire family; purple sapphires are rarer and quite extraordinary. Natural sapphire displays an amazing chatoyancy - chatoyance is an optical phenomenon in which a band of reflected light, known as a cat's-eye, (chat = cat in French) moves just beneath the surface of a polished gemstone.
Each pair of cufflinks is unique and one of a kind, and made by hand by metalworking artist and Well Done Goods by Cyberoptix founder, Bethany Shorb. Working between Detroit and DTLA, she sources all stone, crystal, shell, fossil and horn specimens locally, intuitively sourced in person from only the most reputable and ethical suppliers.
Electroforming results are unique to each specimen and will never be identical, even when crafted under what seems the same conditions. This nuance and variation is characteristic of the singularity of the piece and process.
