$ 89.00

Henry Ford may be famous for saying “Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black” -- we're sure glad that didn't last. Did you know it takes 997 layers of paint to make 1 inch of Fordite!? Look at the metal flake paint in these!!!!

  • 18" .925 sterling silver chain
  • Large sterling silver bail
  • Ovals are about 1.25" long, round just under and inch.
  • Polished real Fordite. Cut, polished and set in house!
  • Each is unique!

Designated the state stone of Michigan in 1965, Petoskey stones Hexagonaria percarinata are coral reef fragments deposited during the Devonian period, and later carried by glacial movement.

Using traditional lapidary techniques, from rough slabs I hand-cut and polish Corvette, Kenworth Truck, very very old fragments for smaller works (like 50s/60s old...) from numerous Detroit factories, as well as some newer stock of comparatively modern Jeep Fordite, aka "Jeepite" and Ford Mach-E Fordite. I only work in material I am sure is authentic and not knockoff paint pours - either from folks who have "liberated" it directly from the source in Detroit or other midwestern locales, current automotive suppliers, or reputable sellers at the Tucson and Quartzsite gem shows. While most is very vintage, there is still some contemporary Fordite rough that is collected and made available to lapidary artists from smaller paint runs, primarily Jeep and some truck plants.

Handmade in the USA in our Detroit, Michigan studio, located in Historic Eastern Market.
