Located on Detroit's Woodward Avenue, The Garden Theatre reopened in the 1960s as an adult cinema called Peek-A-Rama. Censorship laws in Detroit were lifted in the 1970’s and things got pretty sassy - it was later renamed The Sassy Cat.
What a naughty kitty! This will tease and please cat lovers, Detroit architecture nerds, vintage cinema buffs who liked films with actors in the buff, and for some extra goth band fandom points: The Sisters of Mercy First and Last and Always album's photo includes the Detroit's Finest Adult Movies Marquee.

Designed by renowned theatre architect C. Howard Crane, who also designed the Fox Theatre, The Majestic, Orchestra Hall, the Capitol Theatre (Detroit Opera House) and Olympia Stadium, the former home of the Detroit Red Wings (1927-1987).
After decades in ruin, the 3929 Woodward Avenue theatre underwent a massive renovation and reopened in October, 2013. Today, the Garden is a thriving performance art, event and rental space.
