Black Ammonite Bolo Tie. Fossil Stone Bola Leather Lariat Necklace

$ 79.00

About 240 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period, a massive ocean covered what is now Madagascar - teeming with life and ammonites! Over time, they passed on, and their shells were fossilized. Now we can find these fossils preserved in sedimentary rock. Very occasionally we come across a rare black ammonite fossil. These unique fossils likely got their color from manganese rich waters.

  • One bolo tie
  • Mirror-polished Ammonite half averages approx. ~2" at its largest. We use the largest we can find appropriate for the bolo tie size
  • Color choice: Choose "Black" for mostly black tones or "brown" for a mix of both black and brown earth tones. Or NEW - "Black w/ contrast" -- mostly black and white tones, some crystal vugs, maybe a little earth tones for fun. Lots more going on than just black!
  • Slide clip on the back for easy adjustment
  • Total length with tips: about 38 inches
  • Choose warm brown or black leather cord: sturdy 5mm REAL leather braided cord. Not "vegan"/faux "leather"! It will soften up over time and use.

  • Handmade by us in our Detroit Michigan studio! Please allow for slight variations in color, shape and size of the stones. Each fossil is unique!
  • Each is securely attached to the bolo hardware with aircraft grade, jeweler's cement bonding
  • The reverse side of the stone is coated in resin to act as a "bumper" to prevent damage while wearing or if dropped - and to further secure the hardware
  • Gift box included.

What is an ammonite? Ammonites were predatory mollusks that resembled a squid with a shell. These cephalopods had eyes, tentacles, and spiral shells. They are more closely related to a living octopus, though the shells resemble that of a nautilus.
