Yes, common "citrine" is really amethyst in it's former life! To create heat treated Citrine (also called burnt Amethyst), an Amethyst crystal, geode or cluster is baked at temperatures of around 800-900 degrees F, this changes the color to varying shades of orange, depending on how long it is "cooked" for.
