These are fully formed, naturally double-terminated crystals that form INSIDE a geode - not cut from any host rock or larger cluster. When the geode is cracked open, the crystal falls out on it's own, completely detached - you can find these special specimens by gently shaking a geode, and sometimes you can hear a delicate sound of something moving on the inside.

The host rock seen at Las Vigas is andesite, a gray volcanic rock that contains very little silica. The amethyst crystals occur in gas bubbles within the andesite. This amethyst does not occur as geode linings or squat, thick crystals, but as very well-terminated, elongated prisms or clusters of prisms. 

No mold, no template, no casting, no two of a kind. Each is a small sculpture wholly crafted by hand, one at a time.

Each is unique and one of a kind, and made by hand by metalworking artist and Well Done Goods by Cyberoptix founder, Bethany Shorb. Working between Detroit and Southern Arizona, she self-collects or sources all stone, shell, fossil and bone specimen materials in person from only the most reputable suppliers.

Electroforming results are unique to each specimen and will never be identical, even when crafted under what seems the same conditions. This nuance and variation is characteristic of the singularity of the piece and process.
