Midwest meets the Southwest! Modern automotive history you can wear: Built in Detroit. Cut for the trail! These large freeform cabochons are polished from modern Jeep factory paint buildup (2020s and later). This is authentic contemporary Fordite formed from thousands of layered automotive oversprays cured over time in production facilities — hypnotic topographic patterns unique to each cut.

  • One bolo tie
  • Polished freeform Petoskey stone averages just under 1.75" at its largest. We use the largest stones we can find appropriate for the bolo tie size
  • Slide clip on the back for easy adjustment
  • Total length with tips: about 38 inches
  • Black leather cord: sturdy 5mm REAL leather braided cord. Not "vegan"/faux "leather"! It will soften up over time and use.
  • 2 inch silver-tone tapered cord tips with decorative embossing
  • Handmade by us in our Detroit Michigan studio! 
  • Each is securely attached to the bolo hardware with aircraft grade, jeweler's cement bonding
  • The reverse side of the stone is coated in resin to act as a "bumper" to prevent damage while wearing or if dropped - and to further secure the hardware

Also known as Detroit agate, Fordite is hardened layers of factory paint that accumulated in spray booths during vehicle production. Each color band represents a paint cycle. When cut and polished, the cross-sections reveal layered automotive history.

These pieces come from Jeep-related production facilities, featuring contemporary metallic finishes and performance-era colorways.
